Green kiwis are egg-shaped with fuzzy brown skin. Inside, their green flesh is speckled with tiny black edible seeds and their flavour is sweet and sometimes tart. You can peel and slice your kiwi or just cut it in half and scoop out the flesh. They retain their bright green colour even when exposed to air so kiwi is a good choice for fruit salad and fresh fruit tarts.

Pineapples have a diamond-patterned skin that resembles a pinecone with crisp, green leaves shooting out the top. The distinctive flavour of the pineapple's golden yellow flesh is sweet and tangy. Once cut, pineapple makes a great addition to smoothies, or slice yours to make a pineapple upside-down cake.

Pomegranates have a red or pinkish-yellow skin on the outside and inside there are hundreds of seeds surrounded by a cream-coloured membrane. Remove that membrane and enjoy the sweet-tart flavour of the bright red seeds. The seeds (or arils) taste great in salad, yogurt, and on their own as a snack.

Mangoes have a firm, fibrous orange flesh and sweet flavour. Their skin is typically greenish-yellow with a red blush covering most of it, but colour isn’t a reliable way of way of testing for ripeness. Instead, squeeze the mango gently. If it’s ripe it will give slightly. Enjoy mango on its own, in fruit salad, or chutney.
